We are thrilled to announce our 2015-16 concert season, with over 30 concerts taking place from October to May. In this new season, we will present three stirring performance projects: Intimate Voices; Storm and Stress; and New Horizons, with each project exploring a distinct theme.
In the autumn we focus on works which have intimate expression at their core with the Intimate Voices project, featuring Sibelius’ masterwork ‘Voces Intimae’, Shostakovich’s String Quartet No 7 and Janacek’s second string quartet, ‘Intimate Letters’.
Storm and Stress
During February and March we will present Storm & Stress, demonstrating the passionate, expressive eighteenth century German ‘Sturm und Drang’ movement through Haydn and expanding this idea with works inspired by extremes of expression by Bartók and Grieg.
In April and May we look towards New Horizons with a series of concerts which represent composers at points of departure, or venturing into new territory. These include Mozart’s ‘Dissonance’ quartet, capable of surprising even 21st century ears, and Dvořák’s ‘American’ string quintet which illustrates how new surroundings can both influence and inspire.
We’ll be playing concerts countrywide: from the popular Rush-Hour series in Edinburgh; to the Luminate Festival in Stirling; and all the way up to the far North in Thurso: there’s a concert for everyone to enjoy.
Concert times and booking information can be found on the Edinburgh Quartet website http://www.edinburghquartet.com/concerts which will be updated through the season.
