On 14 October we will launch our Intimate Voices performance project with a Rush Hour concert featuring Janáček’s String Quartet No 2 “Intimate Letters”. The concert is a creative collaboration with Edinburgh’s Prize-winning novelist and Edinburgh Makar/Poet Laureate (2008-2014), Ron Butlin, who will be reading extracts from the composer’s letters.
5.30pm, St George’s and St Andrew’s West Church, 13 George Street, EH2 2PA
Many of the greatest composers chose to write for the string quartet because of the medium’s capability for intimate expression. As a backbone of the new season, we have chosen to focus on works which have intimate expression at their very core, starting with our Intimate Voices project.
The Intimate Voices concerts feature:
Schubert’s String Qt No 10 in E flat
Shostakovish’s String Qt No 7
and Sibelius’ String Quartet “Voices Intimae”
We look forward to seeing you there!
