Auditions for the first “EQ Apprentice” will take place on Sunday 17 April at the Reid Concert Hall, Bristo Square, Edinburgh from 10am – 6pm.
‘The Apprentice’ is an exciting new scheme devised by the Edinburgh Quartet for exceptionally talented young string players. Its objectives are to offer the unique opportunity to experience playing in an established, professional string quartet and to ultimately provide a platform to help launch a career in chamber music.
Thirteen talented young musicians from throughout the UK will have the opportunity to play in place of a player from the Edinburgh Quartet on the concert platform. At the end of the day, one participant will then be invited to form a string quintet in a series of public concerts which will take place this summer.
Participants will play excerpts from the following repertoire:
Mozart String Quartet No 19 in C K465 “Dissonance”
Haydn String Quartet Op 76 No 2
Grieg String Quartet No 1 in g minor Op 27
Dvořák String Quartet No 12 in F Op 96 “American”
Members of the public are welcome to drop in throughout the day to observe the competition, free of charge.
This opportunity is supported by Creative Scotland and the Reid School of Music, University of Edinburgh.
